Buddha’s teachings are seeded within a philosophy of harmony between man and nature, but unfortunately, in Thailand this balance is starting to slip. Since the come of the late 20th century, industrialization has sped up global warming which is in turn causing sea levels to rise and increasing flooding. The sea level rise is raising concern for low laying coastal regions. One such region is Central Thailand. Many of the historic temples of Buddhist worship there are under extreme threat. In this thesis I will explore the temples that are most at risk for flooding in Thailand, by determining their current condition, what preservation practices are being implemented, providing a preservation plan and determining the fate of these temples against the inevitably rising seas and flooding.
