The George O. Rogers School and caretaker’s house, now the Mondy -School Building, was constructed in 1897 at 2327 St. Philip and 1016 N. Tonti in the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans. The school building had been vacant since 2005 till it was bought in 2015 and renovated for affordable housing for the elderly. The project was renovated in accordance with the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Standards for Historic Rehabilitation, with Rick Fifield acting as the historic architect for the project. The Louisiana Landmarks Society has awarded the project a 2018 Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation.
